CMC thanks guest presenter Rich Seigel (of BareBones Software) for joining us at our Feb 25th meeting! Remember to try out the free trial of Yojimbo at BareBones.com . Our Back To Basics session covered the details of burning/recording CD/DVDs and cataloging their contents. Thankfully, there is a rich selection of disc cataloging apps to choose from on the Mac platform. We talked about just a few, but I urge you to download and try the demos of all of them, to see which you like best. * Disk Catalog Maker * Archive * CD Finder * DiskLibrary * Media Catalog * Disk Cataloger * AutoCat * Touvaly * File Finder We also talked about a disc burning application called Disco, which handles for you the frustrating task of splitting up folders and files among multiple discs. While Roxio Toast also has this capability, Disco does it for a list price of $30 (and currently available for only $20). * Disco App As Chris said in the Back To Basics session, the best place to store your archived data on DVD is by using a disc binder (instead of jewel cases). He has found that the best quality disc cases, that will last you for years and years, are from Case Logic. They are available in a wide variety of colors, shapes and capacities. If you want to create fancy labels and sleeves for your discs, here are a few software tools that make this possible: * Disc Cover by BeLightSoft * Disc Label by Smile On My Mac * CD Styler by Thomas Prachtel * Big Rooster CD Labeler * Discus by Magic Mouse * UnCoverIt by iwascoding |
